Pholk is a registered charity based in Essex that was originally founded in 2013. The charity enables adults with and without disabilities to come together on equal terms by going out into the community to establish new friendships, confidence, self-esteem and social skills. It also helps approach any difficult challenges the young adults may have previously been unable to do.
At the moment we meet on a Wednesday evening in the Southend-On-Sea area, however we do also plan the occasional days out and respite weekends away. Our Facebook page has an up to date programme (https://www.facebook.com/pholk.charity/) and gets updated regularly. These are a few activities that we have done:
I really enjoy my voluntary work and I love making people smile. I find it very rewarding helping members build long life friendships and overcome obstacles they’ve faced in the past.
I love volunteering at Pholk because I believe in the concept of bringing everyone together on equal terms regardless of the individuals ability. I also like the sense that I’m doing something worthwhile for the community.
I’ve always had a caring nature which is why I wanted to volunteer at Pholk. I enjoy helping others and being part of a group. Pholk are so welcoming and we are all like one little family. Not only do I get to help others and be a part of something positive, its also something I really enjoy and look forward to
