About Us

Pholk is a registered charity based in Essex that was originally founded in 2013. The charity enables adults with and without disabilities to come together on equal terms by going out into the community to establish new friendships, confidence, self-esteem and social skills. It also helps approach any difficult challenges the young adults may have previously been unable to do.

At the moment we meet on a Wednesday evening in the Southend-On-Sea area, however we do also plan the occasional days out and respite weekends away. Our Facebook page has an up to date programme (https://www.facebook.com/pholk.charity/) and gets updated regularly. These are a few activities that we have done:

  • Out for dinner
  • Bowling
  • Mini Golf
  • Cinema
  • Pottery
  • Variety of sports

What Our Members Think

“So privileged to be part of the amazing charity Pholk as before this came along I wasn’t in a good place in my life esp on a social aspect of it, was very isolated/lonely/depressed, had very few friends, and i didn’t really go out too much either, socially that is. However since joining Pholk my life is so different I always enjoy the meetings and activities that they do and I’ve made some great new friends in my time there, long may it continue because it has changed my life for the better and I absolutely love it thanks for making me feel so welcome”

“Pholk is such an amazing charity and I love attending the meets each week. We have so much fun and I have made lots of new friends. I love being able to go out to places I have never been able to go to before”

“I really enjoy Pholk and all the activities we do. I have so much more confidence since becoming a member and I was even able to go on my first ever holiday which was Disneyland Paris. I had the time of my life.”

Getting Involved

At PHOLK, we always need your support in raising funds for us to continue “Bringing everyone together on equal terms” for everyone of all abilities. As well as fundraising, we are always looking for dedicated volunteers to join our friendly team. Interested? Please contact us for more information, or come along one week to meet the crew! You will see what a difference Pholk makes to young adults of all abilities.
